A highly credentialed field of over 300 riders, a beautifully flowing track built by the South Coast United Mountain Bike club and perfect weather ensured that the racing would be fast and close throughout the 8 hour endurance format event.

Round 2 also significant as it played host to the Australian Defence Force Endurance championships, 28 entrants, many from HMAS Albatross, vying for the glory of being the nations fastest serviceman on the dirt.

The Mens Pairs category is always one for the hard men and they don't get much harder than 2006 World 24 hour MTB Champion Craig Gordon from Helensburgh. With Rockstar Racing teammate Troy Glennan they established a lead early in the race and were barely pressured throughout. The race for second and third was a gripping battle that went to the final lap, Yeti/GU's Perren Delacour got off to a rough start but the team worked solidly all day to move from 5th up to battle with Wollongong's Josh Carlson and Peter Kreilis for 2nd place. In the closing laps Carlson's times started to blow out, while Yeti/Gu's Matt Potter lifted the tempo to cover the course distance two minutes quicker per lap and secure 2nd. It wasn't all bad for Carlson, as earlier in the day he set a blistering course record of 25 minutes, 45 seconds over the 10.5 kilometers.

Backing up from their Mixed Pairs category win in the first round was Nicola and Michael Hogan. It was never in the bag as they started the day in 3rd and had to overcome the teams of Stevens Bikes and FRS Stevens. The Hogans now have a handy lead in the series and will be hoping to carry it through to the end of the five race series.

The larger team categories saw Sutherland based SORCC team take the win again from northern beaches combo Podium Proof in the Open 4's. The Masters 3's was a carbon copy of the round 1 with Team FRS taking it by 20 minutes from Xocolatl. The Open 3's saw Sandbaggers take the win over Three Sisters from Western Sydney and 2Fast4U which includes talented Nowra junior Jake Whitton.

The Masters categories proving to be as hotly contested as the Opens especially in the Masters Pairs. Round 1 winners Pedaling Palms had the hurt served up to them all day by Rockstar Shimano riders Dwight Woodforth and Matt Bazzano who took the win by a full lap by days end. The ever consistent Diane Perry used her track knowledge to win the Masters Solo Women's category from Round 1 winner Nicole Lancaster. Hitting a run of form is the Masters Solo Men's winner Ray Giddins who made it two wins in a row to take a stranglehold on the series points table.

The Open Solo categories also saw Kate Heynes of Orange take her second consecutive victory, just 5 minutes ahead of Shannon Weeks after 8 hours of hard racing. The Men's category saw round 1 winner True Swain in a tussle with Sam Moorhouse for 2nd place, Swain making the move at the 3 hour mark but it was Canberra's Jon Odams off the front from the start and he defended his lead to the end, finishing with a 16 minute buffer. A convincing victory for Odams, a versatile rider who previously raced Downhill. The best of the locals was Tapitalee's Mark Fenner in 5th place.

The Defence Forces Endurance Championship was an epic battle between the reigning champion Dion Blair (Navy) and Shane Taylor (RAAF) who had recently placed second in the Australian Solo 24 Hour MTB Championships. Taylor got off to a poor start and had to play catch up for around three hours until he was back in contention, but Blair's consistency over the full 8 hours saw him slowly open up a significant lead as the afternoon shadows drew longer. Blair crowned the 2010 ADF Enduro champion by a margin of 14 minutes with Michael Crummy (RAAF) rounding out the podium.

The final category to be presented was for the Solo Singlespeed Championship. Riding a bike with only one gear, the eventual winner Canberra's Steven Hanley covered over 150km in very impressive style.

In total, well over $10000 in cash and prizes were presented to the winners and place getters provided by the series' generous sponsors SRAM, Brave Soldier, Rockshox, Avid, Truvativ, Lezyne, Kenda, NZO clothing, Hammer Nutrition, Deuter, Muc-Off, Cannondale and Mountain Biking Australia magazine.

The "SRAM Singletrack Mind Series - Protected by Brave Soldier" rolls onto Yellowmundi Regional Park at the foothills of the Blue Mountains for Round 3 on May 16. Enter online at www.chocolatefoot.com.au
